Searching for the present living Latin language we could not miss the university field. We have not been interested in scientific studies of Latin, which are provided by institutes of classical philology and history, but in actual living use of Latin. This can mainly be found at university ceremonies.
However, it is necessary to confess that Latin in this case does not have the role of means of everyday communication but the role of a festivie reminder of original roots of contemporary European university. And these roots were connected with Latin as the international language of the European intellectual community.
At matriculations of university novices,
who are becoming members of the academic society through this ceremony. A lot of students-to-be can hear Latin here for the first time, at least in addressing of the highest univeristy dignitaries.
At graduations of university students,
who are this way becoming graduates with various degrees – Bachelor, Master, Doctor. The highest spot of this ceremony – student´s pledge – is most frequently pronounced just in Latin.
At conferring honorary university degrees
(usually Doctor Honoris Causa) on outstanding personalities.
